The overall aim of this project was to develop capacity within district, state and national agencies in the Eastern Gangetic Plain (EGP) so that they can identify and consistently promote institutions that foster intensification, integration and inclusiveness. The project focuses on three main areas:
• The institutions for transferring knowledge to farm households
• The institutions and activities related to risk management by rural households
• Those institutions and practices related to water rights
The geographical scope is Bangladesh, India (Bihar and West Bengal) and Nepal.
This collection includes data collected in this project’s research activities and includes primary data from farmers and experts across the Eastern Gangetic Plain. Data collected from experts and farmers focus primarily on their understanding of institutions. A second survey with paired comparison experiment completed by farmers in West Bengal, India, also helps us understand how institutions interact with water access and subsequently sustainable livelihoods in the region.
